ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy women’s tennis team announced its schedule for the fall portion of the 2023-24 season on Friday, with the Midshipmen taking part in six events.
“We are looking forward to this fall and the challenges we will face in competition,” said head coach Keith Puryear. “After last season, the ladies and coaching staff all set new goals and expectations for this year. It will be exciting to start this journey that will be the 2023-24 season, as we have a very challenging fall ahead which will only help us to improve exponentially. We are hungry and motivated. This fall will help to set the stage for the successes to come.”
Navy opens the fall slate with the 14th annual Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational on Sept. 8-10, hosting the three-day event at the Brigade Sports Complex. Last season’s Moore Invitational saw then-sophomore Emily Tannenbaum win both the doubles and singles “A” draws, while classmate Parvathi Shanker claimed the singles “C” draw crown.
Following the opening weekend, the Mids will then send select players to the prestigious Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sept. 22-24, with Tannenbaum and rising senior captain Stella Ribaudo both having represented Navy in last year’s edition of the event.
Returning home to Annapolis, the team hosts the three-day Navy Blue and Gold Invitational from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1. Tannenbaum and Ribaudo teamed up in the event last season to capture the “A” doubles championship, while then-freshman Sia Chaudry won the “B” singles finals.
Another staple of the Mids’ schedule, Navy heads to the third annual San Diego Veterans Tennis Classic on Oct. 13-15 at the University of San Diego’s Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Complex, with Tannenbaum earning Tournament MVP honors at the 2022 Classic.
The Mids then make the trip to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Atlantic Regional Championship on Oct. 19-23, hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
Navy finally wraps up the fall schedule with the inaugural Academy Challenge on Oct. 27-29, with the Mids squaring off against Army, Air Force and Georgetown at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va.
Puryear’s squad returns eight student-athletes from last season, including the 2023 Patriot League Player of the Year in Tannenbaum and an All-Patriot League Second Teamer in Chaudry.
