At the resumed first session of the ad hoc Open-ended Working Group (OEWG) towards a science-policy panel on the sound management of chemicals and waste and prevention of pollution (OEWG 1.2), Member States requested the OEWG Secretariat to solicit written submissions from Member States, Observers and relevant stakeholders on issues including Operating Principles of the panel, and Needs and Questions the Panel May Handle.
In direct response to this request, the OEWG Secretariat and Geneva Environment Network (GEN) organized a webinar focused on operating principles of science-policy panels, and the OEWG Secretariat shared a background document offering a comparative overview of the operating principles of relevant, existing science-policy interfaces, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), International Resource Panel (IRP) and Global Environment Outlook (GEO).
The webinar recording can be accessed on the GEN website; the background document is available at this link.
